3 steps before buying your first wig

Sarah Nielsen

We have put together 3 steps to help you with the decision to purchase your new wig.

Deciding to wear a wig, for whatever reason, can be overwhelming. There is so much to understand, know, and learn about wigs, and it can be hard to know where to start. The wig world is vast, and you will never stop learning. However, knowing the basics of where to start can make this journey easier, more enjoyable, and save you valuable time and money.

Step #1: Choose your wig

There are several questions that are good to ask yourself before buying (especially) your first wig. The wig selection out there is huge, and to narrow down the selection a bit, it is good to have these questions under control.

  • What price range are you in? How much are you willing to spend on a wig?
  • Do you want a wig with synthetic fiber hair or should it be real hair?
  • What are your preferences when it comes to texture, length, color, etc.?

Step #2: Buy your wig

After you've decided on the wig you want to buy, the next natural step would be to add it to your cart, right? Not yet. An extra step before purchasing your new wig is to check out reviews, videos, and whatever else there is about that wig/website. That way, you can get a good feel for how the wig looks in real life versus online, and how others describe the wig.

Step #3: How to make your wig look natural

Yay! Your wig has arrived! Now what? First of all, take your wig out of the package - but don't remove the tag yet. If you find that this wig isn't for you, it must have the tags attached in order to be returned or exchanged. Time to try the wig on and see how it looks! First, shake the wig out a little. This will help loosen the fibers and bring the wig to life.

So you've decided this is the wig for you. You've also put the wig on and it feels good - so it must be? Not quite. Making your wig look as natural as possible is an important part of wearing wigs for many people. There are various tips and tricks to achieve a more natural look, but to achieve a natural look there are a few tools and products you need to have on hand. While there are many tools and products that can be useful, here is a basic ''Need to have wig accessories'' list and a ''Nice to have'' list.

Need to have wig accessories:

  • Wig Cap in a color that matches your skin tone
  • A wig head or wig stand
  • A glue to keep the wig extra secure

Nice to have:

  • A wide-toothed comb
  • Dry shampoo (this helps remove shine)
  • A synthetic wig-safe styling product

Many of the accessories can be purchased at Hæir.dk, otherwise you are more than welcome to write to us on our Facebook or Instagram, and we will try to guide you to the right decisions.

Often when we consider buying a wig, we forget all about styling. Half the fun of wigs is styling them, especially if you may not have been able to achieve certain styles with your natural hair. There are so many fun ways to style a wig and accessories that you can use. Consider trying a braided hair headband or a fabric hair band, the options are many.

This is your step-by-step guide to buying and wearing a wig. Remember, wigs are a journey! They can be so much fun and add a little sparkle to your life in ways you may have never imagined. So good luck, have fun, and don't forget...Life is short, wear a wig 😍
